Tioga & George
2005 Trip Plan
January, 2005:
Exploring Baja California Sur. From Guerrero Negro down to the tip of Baja.
Estimated Monthly Miles: 700
Actual Miles: 1,074
February, 2005:
Heading north, looking at places that we missed in our southern trip. Bahia de Los Angeles
would be one of those places. We have not seen any whales yet, and we have got to see a whale!
It should be getting pretty warm during February. By the end
of February, we hope to be back in the United States again, chasing the coolness of the north.
Estimated Monthly Miles: 1,200
Actual Miles: 997
March, 2005:
Once back in the United States, we are planning to head over to take a peek at
Slab City, California and Quartzsite, Arizona. We will then head west passing thru
Joshua Tree National Park and continue west to Riverside, California for a tour of the
Fleetwood RV manufacturing plant. We will then head toward "Death Valley National Park."
Youngest son Joseph wants to meet with his Daddy to go camping sometime during March.
Eldest son David has a cabinet project, and we have made plans to help build and install
this cabinet with him, at his Concord, California home.
Estimated Monthly Miles: 800
Actual Miles: 1,330
April, 2005:
We were slowed up a great deal during March, 2005 by repairs. A bad voltage regulator in
our generator and replacing our catalytic converter caused delays.
We had planned on camping
with son Joseph during March, and also reaching Concord during March. These things are now
holdovers to April.
Estimated Monthly Miles: 600
Actual Miles: 760
May, 2005:
The Team hopes to be in the northern half of Oregon, by the end of May. We have not made any
definite plans to see special places. Sort of play it by ear and stay out of the rain!
Estimated Monthly Miles: 850
Actual Miles: 1,289
June, 2005:
Heading north from Oregon, into the State of Washington. The Team will be slowing our daily
miles traveled a bit as we explore the northwest part of Washington.
Estimated Monthly Miles: 600
Actual Miles: 1,138
July, 2005:
Planning on entering Canada around the Vancouver area. Would like to travel eastward
thru Canada and perhaps re-enter the United States near Glacier National Park.
Would be neat to travel thru Pemberton, Salmon Arm, Revelstoke, Banff and Calgary. Don't know
a thing about these Canadian towns!
Note:
Problems with Datastorm caused me to exit Canada about ten days early and this pushed up my
July miles quite a bit. This change also pulled almost all of my August plans into July. I
spent several days in Glacier Park, and then moved west to the Libby, Montana area.
Estimated Monthly Miles: 800
Actual Miles: 1,534
August, 2005:
Entering Northern Idaho, then to Spokane. Possibly head toward Mt. St Helens National
Monument and see Spirit Lake. Then to Portland. Want to end the month at my Illinois River
Camp to find out how the cactus plants that I planted there last year are growing.
Note:
High temperatures during August changed plans a bit. We are now heading toward the Olympic
Peninsula. Wow! My estimate was not even close! :)
Estimated Monthly Miles: 900
Actual Miles: 1,884
September, 2005:
This month begins in the Siskiyou National Forest. I've not yet reached my destination for last
month on the Illinois River where I am heading now. After Illinois River, going down the
coast of California. Will definitely spend time in the Redwoods.
Heading south will go thru the Town of Ferndale and head toward the California coast.
Never been this way before. Will try to stay near the coast, but my maps are not clear from
the Town of Petrolia, California and south. I want to explore the area described in this
Punta Gorda Lighhouse page.
Heading south, I will continue to try to stay as close to the coast as possible, while heading
for my homebase in Concord. While at my homebase for about 10 days, will attend
to a bunch of maintenance things that need to be done for MsTioga.
Estimated Monthly Miles: 850
Actual Miles: 840!! (Wow! Good guess!!)
October, 2005:
Heading south toward Mexico. Probably enter Mexico during late November.
Plan to head to the coastal Town of Santa Rosalia in
the northern part of Baja California del Sur.
Estimated Monthly Miles: 850
Actual Miles: 848 (Wow! Lucky estimate!)
November, 2005:
Continuing to head south along the California coast to Mexico. Planning to stop in San
Diego for a few days, then dive into Mexico! Wow!
I have been to Mexico each year since starting,
to fulltime. But this year for some reason, it is more exciting to think about than ever.
Perhaps the reason for this is that I now know how wonderful it is in Santa Rosalia, my
adopted hometown in Mexico.
Estimated Monthly Miles: 700
Actual Miles: 777
December, 2005:
About the first week in December, I should reach the City of Santa Rosalia. This will be a
remarkable change and challenge for me, because I plan to stay in Santa Rosalia for the
winter.
My plan includes finding a private tutor who will work with me in order to fulfill my lifelong
goal of becoming fluent in Spanish.
My stories will focus in on people I meet in Santa Rosalia;
about their jobs, their families and dreams for the future. Readers will
follow my daily life, meet who I meet, see what I do. In short, readers will become intimate
with the people and town of Santa Rosalia.
Estimated Monthly Miles: 200
Actual Miles: 328
