Tioga & George
2006 Trip Plan
January, 2006:
Living in the Pueblo of Santa Rosalia in Baja California South. The plan is to
live here for much of the winter. Perhaps until April. We will head north again when
the temperature begins to get hot.
Everyday I will tell about what happens to The Team here in the Pueblo. I will write
about my neighbors, take pics and explore.
MsTioga and The Team are camped at the top of
a hill, above Santa Rosalia. Our camp looks out over the north part of town and the
gorgeous Sea of Cortez.
Estimated Monthly Miles: 30
Actual Miles: 65
February, 2006:
Our February plan is changing dramatically. Instead of going north to see the whales,
we will head south in order to visit with Javier Nava and his family in the Pueblo of
San Carlos. Then we will continue south, to visit with Gumaro Gonzalez and his family
at their rancho at Boca del Salado. We stayed with both of these families during last
year's visit to Mexico.
It is not clear how long it will take to go south, or how long we will stay. We will be
playing it by ear.
Estimated Monthly Miles: 700
Actual Miles: 838
March, 2006:
Heading north from Boca del Salado to the Pueblo of Santa Rosalia.
Hopefully, we will finally see the whales this month or perhaps in April?!
Estimated Monthly Miles: 450
Actual Miles: 174
April, 2006:
The weather at the Pueblo of Santa Rosalia should be getting pretty warm about now.
We will be leaving our winter home, and heading north searching for adventure. As you know,
The Team likes to live in wonderful weather places. If it is rainy in Southern California,
we will be spending more time along our path in Mexico.
When we do reach Southern California, maintenance things are high on our list of Things-To-Do.
Do you remember when MsTioga's catalytic converter blew up near Kamloops, Canada? MsTioga
has to go to the muffler shop in Ridgecrest, California to get a warranty repaired converter.
It was not convenient to get the converter changed out when we were heading toward Mexico
in the Fall of 2005 because we would have had to travel clear across the width of California.
Ms. GQ our little laptop has to go to Fry's Electronics for some warranty work. Her keyboard
has its letters disappearing under George's fingers? Hmmmm? Also, the built in sound system
does not work.
MsTioga's LP Gas detector would not shut off its warning alarm, even though there was no problem
with a propane leak.
MsTioga was in Mexico when the alarm went bad, so we by-passed it in order to use
our propane system.
We have had to replace this detector once before in the past three years, and
are going to shop for another brand this time.
There are a bunch of other items that need to be done before we are able to head toward Utah
to explore the fabulous desert canyons of that state.
Estimated Monthly Miles: 700
Actual Miles: 1,522
Wow! I did not even come close to that 700 mile estimate!
May, 2006:
Traveling east thru Nevada and into Utah. The plan is to spend time searching around Utah's
canyons, then heading north to Glacier National Park. Of course in order to hold our budget,
MsTioga wants to conserve on gasoline. This means holding our daily miles down so it
will take awhile to reach Montana.
The 2006 plan is to spend maybe a month or so around the Glacier Park area. Perhaps we
will pick one
town to really get to know the people who live there.
The other place that we want to spend quite a bit of time exploring in 2006 is
the Olympic Peninsula
in Washington State. The Indian Tribe owned town of Neah Bay has been on our mind for quite
a bit. Do you remember this place when we were last there? That lovely trip to
Cape Flattery
Estimated Monthly Miles: 700
Actual Miles: 1,300
June, 2006:
Visit Motosat Corporation, birthplace of Mr. Datastorm.
Head north thru the State of Wyoming to Yellowstone National Park. Continue
north for Glacier National Park following the Lewis and Clark trail.
Estimated Monthly Miles: 1,300
Actual Miles: 1,374
July, 2006:
Exploring Glacier National Park. After Glacier, head west for Olympic National Park in the State of
Washington.
Route west and how fast we drive will be determined by the weather. We would like to
follow the Lewis and Clark trail to the Pacific coast. However, the weather may be too hot
for The Team.
If it is really hot, MsTioga may zoom across the State of Washington like a rocketship.
Estimated Monthly Miles: 1,000
Actual Miles: 1,527
August, 2006:
Heading south along the Pacific Coast.
My monthly miles have been consistantly
high over my trip plan's estimates. I do not know how to get my monthly miles down without
staying in one place and not moving. A problem for me, since I love to travel.
The monthly miles are proving to be an economic problem. With gasoline prices
up and my Google advertising income falling. It will be interesting to see
how all this plays out in the months ahead.
Estimated Monthly Miles: 1,000
Actual Miles: 1,182
September, 2006:
For nearly the entire month of September, MsTioga and The Team will be staying
in the area of our home base. Concord, California.
We will be kicking back and not traveling a great deal and visiting with family and friends.
Our chief goal here at our
home base is to perform annual maintenance on MsTioga. There are many things for a
good mechanic to do for MsTioga. When we were here last year, we found a new mechanic.
We hope that this mechanic will be superior. We have been disappointed before.
Estimated Monthly Miles: 400
Actual Miles: 988
October, 2006:
Leaving homebase in Concord, California. Heading south along the California coast.
There are many things to visit this month
on this part of the journey.
So, I am guessing that by the end of October, MsTioga will be in Southern California.
Note: MsTioga entered Mexico on October 24th. I guess that she could not wait
for November!
Estimated Monthly Miles: 600
Actual Miles: 985
November, 2006:
At the end of October, I am about 250 miles north of my Mexican hometown of Santa Rosalia
in Baja California, Mexico.
I should arrive in Santa Rosalia at the end of the first week in November. Wow!
Miles traveled: 396
December, 2006:
This December trip plan is being posted at the end of December. So, I guess that I must know
what I am going to do this month, right?
I will spend much of December planning for and implementing the work to be done
with the Chito Family Help Fund. The electrical system was chosen, because anything
else renovated would be wasted if the house burned down due to an electrical fire.
My fabulous garden has been one of my wonderful things. I just love that garden. Every
time that MsTioga needs a propane refill, I've been going into the desert and bringing
back cactus volunteers to live in the garden. Wow! This is soooooo much fun for me,
you would not believe.
Thoughts about next year's trip plan format:
I am going to change the format starting with January, 2007. Each new month will appear
at the top of the page, instead of the bottom as now. You will not have to scroll
down to read the latest month.
I am going to stop posting "Estimated Monthly Miles". Only actual miles will be posted.
The estimate figure was just a shot-in-the-dark guess.
Miles traveled: 41 wow!
