Hells Canyon Overlook-Wow!

A place of vast and quiet beauty

Great Oregon boondocking!

It is impossible to capture the grand beauty of someplace sooooo big as Hells Canyon. People who view the canyon from this overlook are very quiet. There is something magic about being here. We do not want to disturb that magic with our words.

We boondocked at Hells Canyon Overlook for only one day. Thinking back, we should have done more exploring and stayed longer. There was a dirt road heading east, down toward the depths of the Snake River. When we go back to Hells Canyon, that road is one place that we will absolutely take more time to explore!

When we first arrived at Hells Canyon overlook, we thought that there might be no nearby place to camp. We were so surprised, when only a few hundred yards from the overlook, was this wonderful boondock site! Look at the clear and sparkling pond! Do your see MsTioga in our camp?

Tip on traveling the Hells Canyon Scenic Byway:
It may not be clear on many maps, but you may drive the Hells Canyon Scenic Byway all the way from La Grande, Oregon East in a giant loop and end up at Baker City, Oregon. This trip makes a fantastic vacation. There are many National Forest campgrounds along the section called the "Wallowa Mountain Loop." Below is a link to a very helpful map.
